Frequently Asked Questions
Questions we hear most often.
Whether you're new to Precursor or considering it for your next project, these answers will help you understand how the framework is designed to work.
Is Precursor a complete website design?
No. Precursor is a framework, not a finished design. It provides the structure, templates, responsive layouts, and reusable components that serve as the foundation for your website. Branding and visual identity belong in child themes.
Do I need a child theme?
Not necessarily. You can build a complete website using Precursor alone. However, we recommend using a child theme whenever you plan to customize colors, typography, templates, or other design elements.
Does Precursor require the BLOKS Code Editor?
No. The BLOKS Code Editor is the recommended editing experience, but Precursor works just as well with the native WordPress editor and other traditional workflows.
Can I use another page builder?
Yes. Precursor is intentionally builder-optional. While it is designed to work especially well with semantic HTML, you are free to use the tools that best suit your project.
Will updating Precursor overwrite my customizations?
Not if you keep your customizations in a child theme. That's one of the primary reasons child themes exist.
Is Precursor free?
Yes. The Precursor framework is released under the GNU General Public License and is free to download and use.
Official child themes, premium services, and custom development may be offered separately through BLOKS.
Can BLOKS build a custom child theme for me?
Absolutely. If you'd rather focus on your content than your framework, we offer custom child theme development for businesses, creators, organizations, and agencies.
Where can I get help?
The Learn section of this website is the best place to begin. As the framework grows, additional guides, tutorials, and developer resources will continue to be added.
Still Have Questions?

Whether you're choosing a framework, planning a custom website, or exploring the BLOKS ecosystem, we'd love to hear from you.
